“An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
Statement of intent:
My theme is conflict for my GCSE photography exam. I will be focusing on the different types of conflict and how it impacts people and the world.
In order to produce a creative and realistic final piece I intend to carry out multiple photo shoots on some types of conflict such as domestic abuse, self harm, bullying, war, etc. I will create a mind map showing conflict around the world such as war, terrorism and slavery and all other sorts of conflict happening worldwide that affects millions of people all the time. I will try to take my images in school and out of school too show a range of pictures, I will try to take some of the images outside of school for example at my house or a park, In school I will take my images out in the corridor or in a dark room so show that the emotions of the victims are 'dark'. I will also bring in my own props such as makeup to be able to show bruises and cuts on a victim to create a sympathetic effect and Mrs kidd will bring in props such as empty wine bottles to use as a 'weapon' on the victim, she will also bring in other props for this project.
I intend to take lots of images to show a variety of ideas and achieve lots of different outcomes. I will take a number of photo shoots on the theme domestic abuse and self harm using Amina as my model.
The photographers I intend to research is called UNICEF which stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, which is a team that helps to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that have been devastated by World War II and other problems. I will also research a number of images off the internet that link to my theme of domestic abuse and self harm. The techniques that I will use on the cameras will be different white balances, a variety of iso, aperture and shutter speed to make my work look more realistic and professional, these techniques will help to increase my grade by achieving lots of different outcomes with my work.
By doing this project I hope to learn more about the conflict and how it affects the world and everyone around us and what could be going on in everyone's lives that nobody knows about.
Mood Board for conflict ideas:
I have chosen these ideas for this project because they all link to the theme of 'conflict' such as bullying, Abuse, world problems and Home problems. I think that the theme I am going to focus on for this project will be domestic abuse and self harm as I feel like it is a very important subject and I can make my images look professional and to a good standard. To achieve my images I will use Amina and Connor as my models to show domestic abuse, I will put makeup on one of them to show the impacts of domestic abuse and self harm.

PLAN FOR MY PHOTO SHOOTS:
preparation:
Shoot 1:
Best image: |
Worst image: |
This is my best image because there expressions show that one is angry and the other is scared of being hit with the bottle by the abusive partner. This image shows what can happen in an abusive relationship. |
I think this is my worst image because the models in the picture are smiling and my theme is very serious which means that they shouldn't be smiling . This makes my image less effective. |
Shoot 2:
Best image: |
Worst image: |
I think this is my best image because it is clear that the model in the picture is blocking her face from the bottle which shows that she is scared and feels intimidated by her partner. |
I think this is my worst image because the image is bleached out and is blurry which means you cant focus on any of the people in the image and their facial expressions. |
Shoot 3:
Best image:This is my best image because they expression on the models face shows that she is terrified and the way she is looking up suggests that their is someone there who she feels threatened by. |
Worst image:This is my worst image because the model is smiling in the picture which does not show how serious domestic violence is. It does not show any aperture and you can also see the wall behind the background . |
Shoot 4:
Best image:This is my best image because it shows the effects of being in an abusive relationship and what can happen from it because the victim may feel that they have no other way out. It also shows the blood dripping down he arm which makes it look more realistic. |
Worst image:This is my worst image because the exposure is a little bit too bright and the image is unclear and blurry which does not give it as much of an effect as the image would do if it was clear. I think the image would be better if the lighting was a bit darker and it had less exposure. |
